IS ANY HOUSE EVER REALLY A DREAM HOME OR JUST A HOST FOR THE DREAMS OF THOSE WHO DWELL WITHIN THEM?
This psychological mystery takes place in a small up state New York seaside town closed up for the winter, all the three main female characters are inexplicably linked to a US Marine who we see through-out the piece only in the shadows. Are they lover, are they mother, or are they all just lying to each other? Only time will tell.
BASTET an artist and old contemporary of Andy Warhol, who’s star is now on the wane and needs money, takes in the young AGGIE a mysterious out of town-er, who turns up at BASTET’S old dilapidated beach house one day looking for a room to rent.
Within a short time a bizarre mutually paternal relationship forms between AGGIE and BASTET, MARTHA a local waitress also befriends AGGIE, all goes well between the trio, until on one of those nights from hell, MARTHA is killed in a road crash and AGGIE is sexually assaulted by a group of drunken college jocks.
These events galvanize BASTET into action, she takes AGGIE to Manhattan where they meet up with an old art dealer friend of BASTET’S who after a surreal drug fuelled night, offers to buy all of BASTET’S paintings.
BASTET with her new found wealth takes AGGIE on a crazy road trip into the backwoods, on the road the bond between the two women grows ever closer.
On their return to BASTET’S house, AGGIE throws BASTET a surprise birthday party, where the latter, in the midst of a drunken argument with AGGIE, falls down the stairs and breaks her neck.
After the reading of BASTET’S will AGGIE finds herself a wealthy woman. BASTET has left her everything, at this point the US Marine we have seen only in the shadows joins AGGIE at the house, they are lovers.
The question is, are they lovers who planned all that happened, or was it really just the hand of destiny?
IN EVERY DREAM HOME is a real actors piece, one of those rear scripts with three strong women’s lead parts, all of differing ages, AGGIE (early 20’s) MARTHA (late 30’s) and BASTET (50).
